Maria Tsaptsinos

...started playing table tennis during the last year of her primary schooling and then joined Kingfisher club whereas she trained with Brian Halliday and later had weekly sessions with Gareth Herbert. Then she was invited to Lilleshall and Sheffield for the Youth Development Squad and consequently to the International Youth Squad. Represented England in various tournaments since 2012 and participated at the Youth Europeans as a Caded and Junior. In 2015 the first call for a senior cap came for the Europeans and Table Tennis Commonwealth.
Maria currently is a scholar at University of Nottingham studying Geography.
Her other interests include football, music and spends time socialising on facebook.

Junior Masters

The National Junior Masters took place the weekend  (28-29th of April) at the Burton Uxbridge Table Tennis Club. Fourteen girls competed against each other with 7 games on Saturday and 6 on Sunday. Maria was seeded seventh and finished seventh with two notable wins against E. Collier and A. Millwain and 7 wins in total. The results were:

BBC Berkshire Radio

Maria has been invited by BBC Radio Berkshire for an interview in the early morning of the 4th of May to discuss her career and her involvement with the Sainsbury's school games.

Training with Tom...

A couple of weeks ago practiced against Tom Maynard at Kingfisher and the event provided a good opportunity to use the new lenses!

French Open - Third Day

Following yesterday's first game for Cadet Doubles (round of 32) with Maria and Tin Tin going through to the last 16 by beating LUNG Lisa BEL / MARIJSSE Delfien BEL 3-1 (11-5, 4-11, 11-4, 11-5) another win this early morning against OGRINE Pauline FRA / SOPOSKI Roza FRA with the same score 3-1 (8-11, 11-8,11-7,11-4) has taken them to the Quarter Finals.


Germany won 3-1....

French Open - Day Two

Today Maria participates for Cadet Singles and Cadet Doubles with Tin Tin Ho.
For the singles her group included MIGOT Marie (FRA), LOYEN Eline (BEL), CRAWFORD Rachel (SCO).
Maria went through her group with 2 wins and 1 loss.
  • Migot vs Maria: 11-6 11-4 11-7
  • Crawford vs Maria: 7-11, 8-11, 7-11
  • Loyen vs Maria: 10-12, 11-5, 9-11, 5-11 
The first game for the round of 32 Maria and Tin Tin went through to the last 16 by beating LUNG Lisa BEL / MARIJSSE Delfien BEL 3-1 (11-5, 4-11, 11-4, 11-5). Next game is scheduled for early Sunday morning.



Maria unfortunately lost to Chasselin Pauline (FRA) 3-0 for the next round of singles

French Open - Day One

Maria flew to Metz yesterday to take part at the 2012 French Junior & Cadet Open taking place at Metz, France. Day one for the cadets is the team event. The team comprising of Tin Tin Ho (13th seed) and Maria (27th seed) are in group E with Romania B, Belgium B and Scotland.

The first game was against Scotland and England won 3-0. Maria's results were:
  • CRAWFORD Rachel  vs   TSAPTSINOS Maria     7-11     3-11     6-11     -     -     0-3
  • ELLIOTT Lucy CRAWFORD Rachel  vs  HO Tin-Tin TSAPTSINOS Maria    3-11     6-11     13-15     -     -     0-3 
with Tin Tin winning her single.


The second game of the day was against Romania B and England won 3-2. Maria's results:
  • CRISAN Bianca (seed 18) vs    TSAPTSINOS Maria     9-11     11-2     11-5     9-11     4-11     2-3
  • DIACONU Adina SINGEORZAN Arina-Dora  vs  HO Tin-Tin TSAPTSINOS Maria    11-3     13-11     11-8     -     -     3-0

with Tin Tin winning both her singles.

The third game was against Belgium B and England won 3-1. Maria's results:

The team was given a BYE for the next round and now they are scheduled to play Russia A for the Quarter Finals. The Russian team consists of CHERNOVA Daria (seed 5) and MALANINA Maria (seed 10).

Unfortunately England lost 3-0 to the strong Russian team. Maria's results:

  • Daria Chernova bt Maria Tsaptsinos 3-0 (11-6, 11-7, 11-8)
  • Chernova/Malanina bt Ho/Tsaptsinos 3-2 (10-12, 11-8, 5-11, 11-7, 11-7)
