Maria Tsaptsinos

...started playing table tennis during the last year of her primary schooling and then joined Kingfisher club whereas she trained with Brian Halliday and later had weekly sessions with Gareth Herbert. Then she was invited to Lilleshall and Sheffield for the Youth Development Squad and consequently to the International Youth Squad. Represented England in various tournaments since 2012 and participated at the Youth Europeans as a Caded and Junior. In 2015 the first call for a senior cap came for the Europeans and Table Tennis Commonwealth.
Maria currently is a scholar at University of Nottingham studying Geography.
Her other interests include football, music and spends time socialising on facebook.

End of Season Ratings

At the end of the season, Maria has finished as the second Junior girl (2159 points), her best ever rating, and the 13th player for Senior Women (2632 points) in the UK.

During the ten days at Ostrava Maria and the England team started extremely well by finishing first in the group beating Armenia, Norway, Bosnia and Austria.

Then the team had to face Italy for the playoff position to guarantee a 1 to 16 placement. Despite the team being the favorite on paper a surprised defeat for Tin Tin and Lois losing 3-2 from being 2 sets up - Maria played as the number three - meant that we lost 3-2.

For the singles Maria faced Ashley Givan from Ireland and won 4 : 2  (8 -6 5 -9 5 4), then faced chopper and no26 Linda Bergstrom (SWE) and despite a good performance she lost 4-1 (4 -10 6 4 11). For the doubles Maria and Lois had a difficult draw against seeded RAKOVAC, Lea (CRO) and MANTZ, Chantal (GER) losing 3 : 1  (5 -6 4 4).

The best performances of Maria came for the mixed doubles, with Sam Walker when they beat the Slovakian pair PETER, Ingemar and JURKOVA, Eva 3 : 1  (4 14 -8 8); the Swedish pair JOHANSSON, Henrik and SODERLUND, Emma 3 : 0  (7 9 17) but finally lost to the Serbian pair KATIC, Ivor and TRUZSINSZKI, Viktoria (SRB) 3 : 0  (9 8 9).

Looking forward to the European Youths

The European Youth Championships are taking place at Ostrava of the Czech Republic, with the team event commencing on the 12th of July. The England Junior Girls team of Tin Tin, Maria, Lois and Emily have been drawn in Group G facing Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Norway and Armenia. Romania, Germany, France and Russia are the top seeds. The squad spent last week at EIS in Sheffield preparing for this prestigious tournament.

Invitation International 2013 Isle of Man

South East Representatives
A successful  weekend at the isle of Man for Maria representing English Schools for the under 16s. Maria won two gold medals, for the team event with Yuki Wat winning 3-0 against Ireland and for the individual event where she faced her team mate Yuki. The final score was 3-2 with Maria winning the fifth set after trailing 9-5 with six consecutive points.
