Maria Tsaptsinos

...started playing table tennis during the last year of her primary schooling and then joined Kingfisher club whereas she trained with Brian Halliday and later had weekly sessions with Gareth Herbert. Then she was invited to Lilleshall and Sheffield for the Youth Development Squad and consequently to the International Youth Squad. Represented England in various tournaments since 2012 and participated at the Youth Europeans as a Caded and Junior. In 2015 the first call for a senior cap came for the Europeans and Table Tennis Commonwealth.
Maria currently is a scholar at University of Nottingham studying Geography.
Her other interests include football, music and spends time socialising on facebook.

Junior county premier league

Berkshire represented by Liam, JJ, Daniel, Maria and Bijun lost to Surrey 7-3 ( Maria beat lois Peake 3-0, lost to Yuki Watt with the same scoreline) on Saturday. and Middlesex 6-4 on Sunday (Maria beat 3-0 Sushumita Limbu and a notable result Maria's win by 3-1 against Tin Tin Ho).On Sunday afternoon Berkshire beat Warwickshire 8-2 with Maria recording another 3-0 win against Holly Thompsonplus a walkover win since Warckshire had brought only one girl.

Medway Grand Prix

Band 3 final action shot
A good weekend at Medway Grand Prix playing against some very good players. On Saturday, for the band 2 Maria went through her group with 2/3 wins and then she was eliminated at the Quarter Finals. In the afternoon she reached the final for band 3 whereas she lost on the fifth to Emma Torkington. On Sunday morning a good performance beating Janay Gibson and then losing to England player Emma Vickers 3-1 at quarter finals. The long delay waiting for the Under21s groups contributed to the elimination from the group stage.

Stockton 4* Brief Report

Maria participated in three events.
  • Cadets where she beat Ella Patel 3-0 at the final (3 8 8)
  • Team event: Ormesby team with Jessica Dawso. Reached the final where they lost 3-1 to Grantham Tornadoes consisting of Emily Bates and Angharad Phillips. Maria managed to get a set against Emily.
  • Juniors where she easily progressed through her group and then reached the quarter final which she lost to Angharad Phillips.

Junior British League - First Weekend

The St Andrews team consisting of Maria, Lois Peake and Lettitia McMullan participated at the first JBL weekend at Tipton, Division 1.
The final table found St Andrews at the first position joint leaders with Bankfield with 2 wins and 3 draws. Maria played 10 games (8 wins 2 lost) therefore an average of 80%.

Honours for Maria

The ETTA Honours Committee has awarded Maria with the prestigious Mike Watts Achievement Award as the girl player who has made the greatest improvement in rating points in the period between 1st of August 2010 and 31st of July 2011. The annual award is presented to the most improved player within all categories of the ETTA ranking system. The official presentation will take place during the English Junior and Cadet Championships in November.

New Season Starts Well

On Saturday Maria won the Sussex 4* Cadet Series beating Lois Peake 3-1 at the final. This was followed with a semi final slot for the Junior players on Sunday.

2011 Six Nations Tournaments: Results

The Cadet Team 2011
The tournament took place at Dusseldorf, Germany over three days (17-19 June). Maria participated with the England Cadet team together with Tin Tin Ho, Emily Bolton and Lois Peake for the group and individual stages.

Maria played and beat the following girls:
