Maria Tsaptsinos
...started playing table tennis during the last year of her primary schooling and then joined Kingfisher club whereas she trained with Brian Halliday and later had weekly sessions with Gareth Herbert. Then she was invited to Lilleshall and Sheffield for the Youth Development Squad and consequently to the International Youth Squad. Represented England in various tournaments since 2012 and participated at the Youth Europeans as a Caded and Junior. In 2015 the first call for a senior cap came for the Europeans and Table Tennis Commonwealth.
Maria currently is a scholar at University of Nottingham studying Geography.
Her other interests include football, music and spends time socialising on facebook.

New Rankings
The new rankings came out today. Maria stayed 5th (Cadets) but narrowed the difference with the 3 girls above her. For the Juniors moved up three places to 25th.

England International Youth Squads
Congratulations for being invited to the ETTA International Youth Squad for the coming season at Cadet level by the England Junior Selection panel. The hard work and good performances of the past two months have paid off.

Cadet Nationals: Reaching the Final

At the group stage the results were:
Nicole Bird vs Maria: 11-7, 3-11, 8-11, 7-11
Isobel Ashley vs Maria:11-8, 11-6, 11-6
Eda Aydin vs Maria:11-8, 7-11, 3-11, 5-11
which meant going through to the second round, to face number 4 seed and fellow Berkshire player Megan Knowles at the quarter finals.
Maria produced a superb performance in terms of dominating the flow of play, consistency and concentration to win 3-1(11-8, 9 -11, 11-9, 13-11). Next for the semi-final she played Emma Torkington the number 2 seed and again a concentrated effort produced yet another great win (10-12, 11-8, 11-8,11-8). On the final the unbeatable, for the moment, Tin Tin Ho won 3-0.

On the group stage she beat Eszter Soos and Hannah Lynch Dawson (both with a 3-0 scoreline); and on the semi final had a comfortable win against Lucy Zhu with 3-0.
On Sunday morning for Juniors she had in her group Katie McGlone (U13s finalist from Ireland) which she beat easily 3-0 but then lost to Charleigh Kirby 3-1 so she was out.
On Saturday for Cadets she beat Lucy Elliott from Scotland 3-0, Hannah Lynch Dawson of Ireland 3-1 to qualify. For Round 16 she beat Elayna McGlone from Ireland 3-0 but lost to Isobel Ashley 3-0 (two sets on 13-11).

New Rankings
A very good performce during October moved Maria to the 5th place of the Cadets (previously 8) and to the 28th place of the Junior Girls (previously 44) by breaking the 1000 point barrier (existing points: 1089)! Lets hope for a similar performce during November!

Junior County Championships
Berkshire young guns win Junior County Championship Division
A very talented and young Berkshire Junior (under 18) team won the County Championships Division 1B (South) at the weekend of 16-17th of October by winning all seven of their matches.
Starting in Okehampton on Saturday, Berkshire played very well in beating Cornwall (8-2), Glamorgan (9-1) and finally hosts Devon (7-3). On Sunday the championships resumed in Bristol where Berkshire beat Dorset, Avon, Essex 2 all with an impressive10-0, and finally Surrey (9-1). This is the second year running that that Berkshire have gained promotion and they will start next season in the nation's top division – the Premier.Maria's average: 10 wins out of 14.

Reading and District Table Tennis Association
Maria is part of the Polish B team led by Graham Diplock participating at Division 1. For Results and Fixtures follow the links.This is a very competitive division providing valuable experience to Maria.
Liverpool 4*
The weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of October Maria participated at the City of Liverpool four star tournament for Cadets, Band 1 Cadets, Juniors and Band 1 Juniors. For the Band 1 Juniors Maria qualified for the knock out stages as group winner and successfully negotiated her first round encounters to reach the quarter-finals.For the Juniors again she reached the quarter finals losing on the fifth to Charleigh Kirby. For the Cadets top seed Emma Torkington (Sx) had a 2-0 lead against Maria and 15 all for the final set but Maria won the next two points, though, went the way of Miss Tsaptsino as did the remaining games which cemented her place at the top of the group earning her a last eight clash with Miss Slott who won 11-7 in the fifth.

Another Table Tennis Good Performance
Another win for Maria for the Under13s tournament at Cirencester 1* table tennis tournament which brighten up a miserable day weather like. She also came runner up for the Under 15s in the same afternoon.
Table Tennis Tournaments
Maria in the space of three weeks she has won 2 tournaments (1 star), one at Cirencester and the other at Tooting, London. The last one, at Tooting, Maria reached the final and despite that she was 2-0 down, then she made it 2-2, 9-7 down on the decider, 10-8, 11-10, 12-11 she finally won 14-12. She demonstrated once again that she is born with the will to win and competitiveness comes naturally to her.

On Saturday the 2nd of December 2006 Maria took part in a pre-qualifying round for table tennis under11s. Maria won all her games to come top in the county and she has been now invited to participate at the National Trials next March.June 02

Table Tennis National Championships
The table tennis National Championships for the under11s took place yesterday at Norwich, and Maria was participating. This is how she did as reported by the official ETTA web site today "In the Under 11 Girls Tin Tin Ho of Middlesex did not drop a set on her way to the Championship winning the final with a comfortable 3 set victory over Maria Tsaptsinos from Berkshire. Maria provided all the shocks in this event knocking out No 2 seed Emma Hoskin (Essex) in 5 sets in her group and then disposing of No 3 seed Jessica Brown in the Semi Final also in 5 sets."
